Gewerklicht Engineering-to-Order Beleuchtung
Gewerklicht · Engineering-to-Order

defines the luminaire.
Not the catalogue.

Where standard doesn't fit, Gewerklicht begins. Project-specific lighting solutions for demanding large-scale projects: engineered in Düsseldorf, produced on our own lines in Asia, from 300 units per luminaire type.

Engineering-to-Order

Where standard ends,
Gewerklicht begins..

There are projects the standard catalogue does not solve. Custom form factors, unusual luminous quantities, atypical installation situations, project-specific CRI requirements, bespoke sensor systems. Anyone who has ever tried to light a 50,000-m² logistics hall with catalogue products knows the problem.

Gewerklicht is the point where everything comes together: 18 years of project experience, our own 3D-print manufacturing in Düsseldorf, long-standing production partnerships in Asia. With this combination we realise lighting solutions the standard market does not serve. Project-based, from a defined production quantity, fully manufactured end-to-end.

02 · Three pillars
What makes Gewerklicht possible

Engineering, manufacturing,
production network.

Three disciplines we have been combining for almost two decades. Each one on its own you'll find with many: the combination you'll find with few.

P · 01

18 years of project experience

Since 2008 we have been building lighting for demanding applications: from escape and rescue routes to renovations to project-specific custom builds. That experience carries every Gewerklicht construction.

P · 02

3D-print manufacturing Düsseldorf

66+ print units on Bonner Straße. This is where prototypes, custom brackets, pre-series runs, and everything that needs proximity comes together. Concept and engineering right at the workbench: no outsourcing chain, no translation losses.

P · 03

Production in Asia

Two of our own production lines in China: not a contract manufacturer but a long-standing partnership. Best series quality at competitive terms, with our engineering data and our quality control.

03 · The process
Six phases from briefing to delivery

Engineering-to-Order.
Documented.

From the first conversation to delivery: every step recorded, every decision traceable. Six defined phases, clean handovers.

  1. P1 · Briefing
    Discovery

    Capturing requirements

Project data, application context, lighting requirements, the sensor systems you want, emergency lighting function, quantity, schedule. One conversation is usually enough to see whether Gewerklicht fits.

  2. P2 · Concept
    Engineering

    Engineering design

CAD design, photometric pre-calculation, material selection, control concept. Includes Dialux/Relux simulation for your project. Binding cost calculation based on the design.

  3. P3 · Prototype
    3D printing

    Functional prototype

1–3 working prototypes from our Düsseldorf 3D printing farm. Photometric measurement in an Ulbricht sphere, mechanical testing, client sampling.

  4. P4 · Pre-production
    Verification

    Pilot batch

10–20 units from the later series process. Verification of tolerances, assembly times, control integration. Client sign-off, then we move into series.

  5. P5 · Series
    Production

    Series production

Production on our own lines in Asia, with quality control at three checkpoints. Packaging built to project needs: palletised by construction phase, floor, or delivery sequence.

  6. P6 · Delivery
    Handover

    Delivery & service

Direct delivery to the construction site, optionally with commissioning support. CE declaration, technical documentation, spare-parts list. 5-year warranty, 10-year repair commitment.

04 · Application fields
Where Gewerklicht is at home

Five fields.
One principle.

Gewerklicht works wherever volume meets bespoke requirement. These five fields cover the majority of our projects, but that doesn't mean we're limited to them.

Honest about when it fits

When does
Gewerklicht make sense?

Engineering-to-order is not the right answer for every project. Here are the rules of thumb, and the clear limits.

Suitable for Gewerklicht

When it fits

  • Minimum quantity from 300 units per luminaire type: engineering costs only pay off above this threshold
  • Large-scale projects with defined special requirements that no catalogue product meets
  • Branch network rollouts with brand-compliant lighting across many locations
  • Industrial buildings, logistics centres, large parking structures with bespoke sensor systems or emergency lighting requirements
  • Property developers and general contractors with recurring large-scale projects
  • Projects with sufficient lead time (typically 16–24 weeks from order)
Not suitable

When it doesn't fit

  • Individual luminaires or very small quantities below 300 units: for these we refer you to the Akzentlicht catalogue
  • Hospitality and restaurant designer luminaires: SIKI Europe is the sister brand for that
  • Renovation of existing luminaires: that is what REVIVE is for
  • Emergency deliveries with less than 12 weeks of lead time: engineering takes time
  • Projects without a clear technical specification or lighting design
  • Individual architects with boutique projects: we are not a workshop for short runs

07 · FAQ
Frequently asked questions

What planners and developers
want to know before their first project.

Seven questions that come up in almost every initial conversation, answered before you ask.

Why is there a 300-unit minimum per luminaire type?
A Gewerklicht engineering project typically takes 80–160 hours. That investment only pays off for the client once the run is large enough to spread the engineering cost across a sensible per-luminaire share. Below 300 units, a configurable Akzentlicht product is almost always more economical, and faster to deliver.
How long does a typical project take?
From order placement to first delivery is typically 16–24 weeks: 3–4 weeks for engineering and concept, 4–6 weeks for prototype and client sampling, 8–14 weeks for series production and logistics. Particularly complex builds or large quantities take proportionally longer.
Who owns the engineering data?
The engineering remains the intellectual property of Akzentlicht: that is a precondition of our product liability and CE conformity. You do, however, get project-specific exclusivity: the luminaire developed for you will not be sold to third parties. On request, and with a correspondingly larger minimum quantity, a full IP transfer is also possible.
Who takes on CE conformity?
Akzentlicht, in full. We are the manufacturer in the sense of the applicable directives (Low Voltage, EMC, Ecodesign, RoHS). You receive a complete CE declaration, technical documentation, type plate and datasheet. No grey area, no shared liability.
What warranty and repair commitment apply?
5-year warranty on LED modules, drivers and housing. 10-year repair commitment: we hold spare parts and engineering data for a decade. Defective units are repaired rather than replaced wherever that is technically and economically sensible. The same applies to follow-on batches.
Can you supply sensor systems and controls as well?
Yes. DALI2, Wireless DALI2, Casambi, Loxone, KNX, 1–10 V, PUSH dimming: all common control protocols. Integrated HF or PIR sensors, emergency lighting with single or central battery, safety and night lighting. Controls are part of the engineering, not an after-the-fact add-on.
How does an initial conversation work?
You get in touch through the contact form or directly with your regional contact. We schedule a 60-minute conversation where you present your project and we make a rough feasibility assessment. If there is a fit, a written engineering proposal follows within 5 working days: binding, with no hidden costs.
